Cheryl Anderson, director

Cheryl Anderson is the Director of Choral Activities at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California. She took up the baton as conductor of the Chorus in 1991. In her tenure at Cabrillo College, her ensembles have performed at all levels of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the National Association for Music Educators (MENC); she has lead Interest Sessions at four Divisional Conferences, and she has served on the ACDA Western Division Board as National Repertoire & Standards chair.
Having served as Bay Area Representative, California, ACDA Executive Board and Chair of the Composition Competition, Ms. Anderson has most recently served as President of the Western Division of the American Choral Directors Association.

2018 Artist of the Year
Conductor Cheryl Anderson was named the 2018 Artist of the Year by the Santa Cruz County Arts Commission. In 2018 Cheryl was in her 26th year as Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at Cabrillo College. During her time at Cabrillo she has taught a variety of music, as well as serving as the
In addition to her elementary and secondary school teaching, she has served on the faculties of Transylvaia University, Colorado State University, University of Northern Colarado and the University of California, Santa Cruz in choral/ vocal music, music education and music theory.
Cheryl has been a professional soloist and chorister her entire career and conducted professionally both choirs and orchestras throughout the world. She sang for a number of years with Robert Shaw and was a Conducting Fellow and singer with Helmuth Rilling and the Oregon Bach Festival. She has served and still serves on the state, divisional, and national Boards of American Choral Directors Association since 1992 and was President of Western Division ACDA 2010-11. She has received numerous awards and among her most cherished are Gail Rich Award, 2008, and Cabrillo Board of Trustees "Cheryl Anderson Day- Decembers, 2016." She is a member of American Choral Directors Association, National Federation for Music Education, National Association of Teachers of Singing, National Collegiate Choral Organization, and International Federation of Music Education.
